Kye Whyte silver

BMX Racing World Championship silver for Whyte in Nantes

Kye Whyte took silver in the UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Nantes, France, capping off a brilliant season for the Peckham rider following his European title earlier this month.

The Olympic silver medallist finished fourth in his semi-final, sending him through to the final in front of a packed crowd. In an explosive final race, Kye gave a strong performance, but despite his best efforts he couldn’t make it past Switzerland’s Simon Marquart, who took the rainbow jersey.

Elite Women

Olympic Champion Beth Shriever enjoyed a blistering route through to Sunday’s finals day, with the defending champion flying through the rounds. However another world title wasn’t to be this time, with the USA’S Felicia Stancil taking the crown in a dramatic final..

Elite Men

All five of Great Britain’s elite men sailed through the qualifiers to Sunday’s finals, but Ross Cullen, Quillan Isodore and Eddie Moore all departed the competition after ferocious quarter-finals, leaving Whyte as the only remaining contender.

Under 23 Men

Callum Russell was the only under-23 male rider to race today, after Matt Hutt and Matthew Gilston were eliminated in Saturday’s qualifiers.

Callum made it through to semi-finals, coming fifth overall and narrowly missing out on a spot in the final.

Junior Men

Following Alex Talbot’s early exit the day before, Jay Bovill started the day as the only British rider in the junior men’s category. He smoothly made his way through his quarter-final, into the afternoon’s semi-final, where his day ended after finishing fifth.

Junior Women

After Morgan Haslam and Ava Brown exited the competition in Saturday’s qualifying stages, Emily Hutt started the day by qualifying strongly in the quarter-final to make her semi in the afternoon. Unfortunately this was as far as she made it, finishing seventh overall.
