Rainbow Jersey double completes The UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships

The Great Britain Cycling Team enjoyed an incredible final day at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships, with two more rainbow jerseys claimed in the road races by Fin Graham and Fran Brown.

George Peasgood took a bronze medal, while women’s tandem pairing, Sophie Unwin and pilot Jenny Holl won silver.

Following his time trial silver earlier in the weekend, Fin Graham took the title of World Champion in the MC3 road race with a dominant performance. Breaking away at the bottom of the climb of the final lap, his outstandingly executed ride culminated in winning his first rainbow jersey.

One world title wasn’t enough for Fran Brown, who added to Friday’s time trial gold medal with a WC1 road race win, making her double World Champion. She delivered another dominant performance, spending the entire race in the front group, which included riders that were two classes above her, and claimed her second rainbow jersey of the event.

Tandem riders Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl took a silver medal in the road race, following their time trial success. The pairing broke away with the Irish tandem early on to comfortably lead the race, only slipping slightly on the penultimate lap where they became unable to close the gap, still securing them their second medal of the World Championships.

In the MC4 road race, George Peasgood added a bronze medal to his time trial gold with a comfortable ride delivering a podium finish.

The whole team delivered strong rides in the final road races of the weekend, with Ben Watson finishing ninth (MC3), Matthew Robertson finishing fourth (MC2), Morgan Newberry finishing seventh (WC5) and Daphne Schrager finishing fourth (WC3).

Across the four-day UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships, the Great Britain Cycling Team delivered five gold, two silver and one bronze medals, in an incredibly successful team performance.
