British performance eyewear brand, SunGod, has announced the launch of the SunGod GTs Signature Series. Worn exclusively by INEOS Grenadiers rider and Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas at this year’s Giro, his podium finish further cements his standing as one of the finest British Grand Tour riders in history.
Designed with extensive input and testing from Geraint Thomas himself, the glasses have been an unmissable feature at this year’s Giro, with Thomas wearing them throughout the race, and while leading in the famous Pink Jersey.
Throughout the rider’s illustrious road career, Thomas has built a reputation for his famous white glasses that have made him an unmistakable sight in the peloton. The SunGod GTs Signature Series design pays tribute to his iconic look and have created something distinctive to the Welshman.
The product of countless hours of racing experience, the glasses have been built with SunGod’s proprietary 8KO lens technology for optically superior clarity while riding in a range of conditions. And this year’s Giro has been well documented as having unpredictable weather – from dry and bright to cold and clouds, and mist and rain.
Leading from the front, in both style and substance, the SunGod GTs Signature Series boasts an entirely new frame design, made in collaboration with Geraint to fulfil his need for functionality, style, and represent his proud Welsh heritage.
Twin lenses cut from a cylindrical Silver Blue 8KO lens give a distinctive styling, with a new, moulded frame shaped in accordance with G’s preference. Nodding to Geraint’s heritage, a Welsh dragon is engraved and inset in red on the nose bridge while the lenses are engraved with G’s own signature. A final touch to the ear-socks in a criss-cross design for enhanced grip in wet conditions gives the impression of dragon scales, to complete the look. A partnership built on a drive to perform – the GTs have been road tested extensively throughout the Giro, with Geraint’s position in the Maglia Rosa ideal for testing at an attritional pace. Built for success in the pro-peloton, his 8 days in the pink jersey stand as a testament to his skill, and the equipment at his disposal.
Ali Watkiss, co-Founder and CEO of SunGod, said “The GTs Signature Series were a bold step away from our existing range of performance glasses, but the result has been outstanding; from G’s feedback, to the media response, to the cycling industry’s appetite to get their hands on the product. Our team worked tirelessly to deliver a truly unique look for Geraint, and we are looking forward to customers being able to get their hands on a pair for themselves.”
Rod Ellingworth, Deputy Team Principal of INEOS Grenadiers, said: “Geraint has continued to prove that he is a force of nature in the GC, and we’re incredibly proud of his performance at this year’s Giro. The work that SunGod put in to deliver his glasses in time for the Giro, and encapsulating his Welsh heritage is proof that the decision to partner with SunGod was the right one. We look forward to seeing more results in the coming season.”
