British Cycling has confirmed the dates and venues for the 2023 national BMX racing calendar, including the National BMX Racing Series and the 2023 British BMX Championships, which will be held in Derby.
Having last hosted the British BMX Championships in 2019, riders will return to Derby for the 2023 edition of the event, where reigning champions Beth Shriever and Quillan Isidore will look to defend their titles over the weekend of 26-27 August.
Shriever will also be looking to retain her national series crown, with the calendar kicking off in Gravesend in April for rounds one and two at Cyclopark.
Platt Fields in Manchester will host rounds three and four for the first time since 2017, before the series returns to Gosport in Hampshire for rounds five and six, which will also be combined with this year’s national championship races. The series then concludes on the weekend of 9-10 September, with venue details to be confirmed in the new year.
European and British champion Shriever said: “Racing at the British Championships is always a highlight on my racing calendar, and to win both the British Champs and the National Series last year made racing at home really special. It’s amazing to have these events on around the UK – the BMX racing community is so special and it’s great to see homegrown talent growing year on year. I’m already looking forward to the 2023 season.”
Event organiser of the 2023 British BMX Championships, Dena Greene, from Derby BMX Club, said: “It’s great to get Derby back on the BMX calendar. We know from past events that the BMX community love a visit to Derby BMX track. The British Championships is a brilliant event – the highlight of any race season – and we’re proud to be chosen again to host in 2023.”
British Cycling’s Acting Cycling Delivery Director, Jonathan Day, added: “We’re looking forward to working with our organisers to deliver another fantastic year of BMX racing in 2023. The British BMX Championships is renowned for its family atmosphere and fierce racing, for riders of all ages, and we look forward to returning to Derby once again in August.
“We’re blessed with some fantastic tracks here in the UK, and our national racing calendar plays a vital role in setting our current Great Britain Cycling Team riders and the stars of the future on the path to success.”
